INTRO

Whether you’re launching a new account on Instagram or have an established profile, your Instagram bio is the first thing potential followers see on your profile. Instagram serves as your digital business card. So, it’s imperative to craft an attractive bio and profile that grabs people’s attention and entices them to follow your account. If you’re feeling a bit out of touch on how to achieve this, then I’ve got you covered!  The very first thing potential followers see once they land on your profile is your profile image and bio. There are a few basic things you need to understand when crafting an attractive Instagram Bio that converts.

Every visitor who views your profile will have one question in mind. Who are you? And what is your account about? It’s important to give your potential follower an instant understanding of who you are and what you’ll be sharing with them. Before scrolling through your content, or even looking at your Stories potential followers will first see your bio.

In this guide, we’ll break down how to craft an Instagram bio that is engaging and helps make your account more visible.

Let’s get started!  To craft an appealing Instagram bio I recommend using a four-line structure. Many businesses use one line, and I do not recommend this. A four-line structure makes it easier for potential followers to read and analyze the information you’ve laid out. Each line should cover a new point and they should all flow together.

Avoid using more than four lines. Most people have a very short attention span and you don’t want to overload them with information. Writing out more than four lines will also result in some of the text being clipped (hidden) and your visitor will need to hit the “read more” button to view the entire text.

First Line of Your Instagram Bio

When a potential follower visits your profile, you need to clearly communicate exactly how you are going to be able to help them and what services you provide. Think of this line as the introduction and what they’ll get if they follow you. The introduction can also give insight into what they can expect from your Instagram profile.

Second and Third Line of Your Instagram Bio

Here’s where you can have fun! These lines are an open playing field. If you have a business profile you can list features of your product or service. If you’re a coach or personality you may use this section to point out key facts, or social proof about yourself. Perhaps you’ve been featured in a publication or received an award – list it. Legitimize your brand by letting people know you’re the real deal and have the facts to back it up! It doesn’t need to be big and extraordinary, just make sure that it’s true and list them.

Fourth Line of Your Instagram Bio

This line should be your call to action. You need to encourage people who visit your profile to act. The more specific your call to action, the better your results.

Call-To-Action for Instagram Examples:

Visit your website
Purchase an item from you
Follow your profile
Listen to your music on Soundcloud
Check out a recent blog post
Send an email to collaborate with you
Subscribe to your newsletter

BONUS

Use emojis at the beginning of each line. This helps your profile stand out and attract attention to each line. Before your potential follower knows they have read all of your bio and are interested in your content. You are fighting for visual attention and it’s easier for people to perceive information when it is accompanied by an image. Keep in mind it’s important to add relevant emojis to each line. Don’t forget to add the finger emoji pointing down or just an arrow pointing down on your 4th line with a call to action
